At AAA Metals Company, Inc., we carry a wide selection of stainless steel round bars in sizes ranging from 1/16 to 16 inches. With more than 40 grades and materials and seven finishes to choose from, you can find the stainless steel rods you need for your manufacturing application.
Choosing The Best Stainless Steel Grade for Your Application
Stainless steel is valued for its strength, durability, corrosion resistance, and its sleek modern aesthetic. It’s easy to manufacture and recycle. Different grades of stainless steel offer various advantages that make them suited for specific applications.
The 300 series is austenitic, containing carbon, chromium, nickel, and molybdenum to create versatile materials that are valued for corrosion and temperature resistance. Meanwhile, the 400 series contains carbon, chromium, and manganese—more carbon and less chromium than the 300 series. This series is prized for its strength and wear resistance. Additionally, the 400 series is magnetic and can be hardened by heat, whereas the 300 series is not magnetic and cannot be hardened by heat.
Of the many stainless steel options in each series, grades 304, 316, and 410 are the most commonly used.
300 Series
- SS 304: Easy to form and resistant to corrosion, 304 stainless steel round bar is often used for braces and frames, railings, kitchen and food processing equipment, and more.
- SS 316: This is even more corrosion resistant than SS 304, making 316 stainless steel round bar the preferred choice for marine and coastal applications, boat fittings, heat exchangers, chemical processing, medical instruments, lab equipment, and more.
400 Series
- SS 410: Often used for screws, bushings, valve parts, kitchen utensils, turbine blades, and more, 410 stainless steel round bar is a popular general-use martensitic stainless steel for applications that require exceptional hardness and some corrosion and heat resistance.
